With so much going on, the future economy along our coasts and shorelines has never been more important with the need to maintain, update and continue to grow.

But, and it's a big but, the coastline is an ever-changing geography - scenes of collapsing cliffs, beaches that appear and disappear, coastal communities devastated by extreme storms appear as headlines.

Add into the mix climate change, with government guidance predicting sea levels one metre higher in 100 years than they are now, with more intense storms.

Of course, these drivers have led to extensive regulations by the government, with planning consents, marine licences and range of other requirements in place to prevent unsustainable development.
