Information Gathering
Freedom of information
Since the year 2000, the UK government has held a policy of making all government funded information available for free access. As a result, there is a mass of useful coastal information available for any site in the UK. It is not only the UK as many countries offer similar services.
Environment Agency LIDAR
The Environment Agency has been flying LIDAR Surveys along most of the England & Wales coastline since 1999. These surveys are regularly repeated thus allowing comparison across many years. The quality of the information is very high.
Coastal Monitoring
The UK database for all Wave and Water Level records, and a plethora of other useful information is the Coastal Monitoring Organisation (website: National Coastal Monitoring - Welcome)
Extreme Water Levels & Nearshore Bathymetry
A couple of really helpful databases which provide information on the UK are the Defra seabed database and the Environment Agency Extreme Water Levels, both are readily available. Seabed Bathymetry is found at: Bathymetry Data Service (admiralty.co.uk); and Extreme WLs at: Coastal Design Sea Levels - Coastal Flood Boundary Extreme Sea Levels (2018) - data.gov.uk
