ICoastConsult is able to set up and manage complex Geographical Databases using QGIS. A sophisticated open-source software. QGIS enables a range of data to be geo-located accurately such that a variety of data sources can be seen and compared at the same time.

QGIS is highly effective at presenting ground level data from all sources - including Google, Mapzen, Environment Agency LIDAR and Drone. Where surveys have been completed over a period of time, then contour comparison between the surveys can assist in understanding erosion/accretion.

An important service in coastal monitoring is the ability to accurately measure performance. In this example a 2022 Drone survey of a breakwater is directly compared with a previous survey from 2020. This allows accurate inspection for movement and settlement.
